PRE & POST LASER TREATMENT INSTRUCTIONS

Pre-Treatment Instruction (Lasers):

Before the treatment with laser or flash lamp, the treated skin area must be protected from exposure to sunlight or solarium for 4 weeks (use sun blocker SPF 50).

 

If hair reduction is planned, no competing methods like peeling, waxing or needle electrolysis should be done 2weeks before. Shaving is allowed.

 

If hair is present in the treatment area it MUST be shaved 12-24 hours before the hair removal procedure.

 

Medicated Creams (include Glycolic, Tretinoin, Retinal, and some Antibiotics) that make you photosensitive should be stopped one week before the treatment.

 

Applying ice packs to the treatment area before and after your treatment will help reduce pain, redness, and adverse reactions.

 

Remove all makeup, lotions, deodorant, or oil from the area to be treated. Allow the skin to dry before treating.

 

 Hair removal laser is contraindicated for those patients who:

 .Unprotected sun exposure within 4 weeks of treatment, including the use of tanning beds or  self-tanning products, such as creams, lotions, and sprays.

.Are hypersensitive to light in the infrared.

 

 .Take medication that is known to increase sensitivity to sunlight.

 

 .Have seizure disorders triggered by light.

 

 .Have  lupus.

 

 .Have suspicious pigmented lesions.

 

 .Have herpes simplex in the area being treated.

 

 .Have received gold therapy.

 

 .Are pregnant.

 

POST-Treatment Instruction (Lasers):

Cool the treated area after treatment with laser as long as it is pleasant and then apply skin moisture.

 

The treated skin area MUST be protected from exposure to sunlight and irradiation in a solarium.

 

Apply sun blocker crème of SPF50 for 6 weeks.

 

Immediately after treatment with laser, redness of the skin, swelling and small crusts at the treatment site are normal which could last up to 2 hours or longer. The redness could last up to 2-3 days. The treated area will feel like a sunburn.

 

Apply ice in 15-20 minute intervals for the first few hours after treatment to reduce any discomfort or swelling. If you need or If redness or swelling persists, ice can be used in 15 minute intervals 3-4 times a day for 3 days.

 

It is possible that the lesion temporarily becomes darker (especially in removal of pigments) As the skin heals, in 7 –14 days, the spot will slough off. 

 

IF no skin reaction is seen besides of a slight erythema, patients are allowed to wear make-up.

 

After the treatment of vessels don’t visit a sauna, don’t drink alcohol and don’t do any sports for at least 1 week.

 

Do not influence the wound healing process, don’t rub or scratch the treated area, don’t manipulate crusts perhaps present use a neutral skin care crème 2-3 times a day as advised by your doctor. If crusting/scabbing occurs, do not shave or pick area, Keep the area moist, and let the crusting/scabbing resolve on its own.

 

Wash the treated area and pat dry for 3 days after treatment. Don’t scrub.

 

may require aloe vera gel or ice after treatment. Hydrocortisone crème is also used when appropriate for comfort and resolution of symptoms.

 

Discomfort may be relieved by cold gel packs and/or an over the counter pain reliever.

 

Avoid swimming, soaking or using hot tubs/whirlpools until the skin heals.

 

Contact physician if there is any indication of infection (redness, tenderness or pus).

 

Patients can usually resume their normal activities at the end of the 1-week.
